Long term vocational training

Technical Training and Professional Integration.

Since 2010, Semeurs d’Avenir has been jointly working with its French partner, the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD), to create, renovate and develop vocational (technical) programs, in coordination with the General Directorate of Vocational and Technical Education in Lebanon.

The vision is to strengthen the capacities of public institutions and partner technical schools to grant them autonomy by renovating old curricula and supporting teaching teams to accommodate development.

Methodology

The following methodology describes the intervention process performed by Semeurs d’Avenir:

  • Currently, three new vocational programs exist: Electrotechnics (2010), Maintenance Professions (2017), Informatics-Programming (2019).
  • The Electrotechnical program is now accredited in 12 partner technical schools, both public and private, in various Lebanese regions.
  • The Maintenance Professions program is accredited in four partner technical schools, public and private, in different Lebanese regions.
  • As for the Informatics-Programming program, it is accredited in six partner technical schools, both public and private, across Lebanon.
  • More than 2,000 graduates have been trained in Electrotechnics, and more than 300 professors have received technical and pedagogical training.
  • More than 90% of graduate trainees are either employed or continue their education one year after graduation.
  • As for the Maintenance Professions, 174 graduates were trained.
  • In Informatics-Programming, 169 young men and women have so far been trained.

The project answers to important local and regional needs:

  • The inadequacy of education for the needs of the job market is one of the main reasons for youth unemployment between 16-30 year-olds.
  • The high need for qualified technicians in Middle East institutions.
  • The inability of old vocational education curricula to meet the demands of the job market.

The objectives of long vocational training:

  • Promote professional youth integration giving them the opportunity for training, which enables them to have a valuable profession.
  • Strengthening vocational school capacity through technical assistance.
