DAFI Scholarship

CONTEXT

IECD (Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement) is a French non-governmental organization founded in 1988 and operating in the field of social and economic development in partnership with local institutions. IECD’s main sectors of action are vocational training and professional integration, assistance to micro and small enterprises and access to education and health for the most vulnerable. In Lebanon, IECD has been operating in the country since 1994 and opened a regional office in Beirut in 2007.

Semeurs d’Avenir (SDA) is a Lebanese association, created in 2010, registered under the number 1905. It is the operational partner of IECD in Lebanon.

The DAFI (Albert Einstein German Academic Refugee Initiative) scholarship program offers qualified refugee and returnee students the possibility to earn an undergraduate degree in their country of asylum or home country. During 2023-2024, Semeurs d’Avenir will be implementing this program.

To support the implementation of the program, SDA is looking for a capacity building officer.

MISSION

Under the responsibility of the DAFI project manager, the capacity building officer will be responsible for the following:

  1. Follow up and support of the students
  • Conduct individual and group meetings with the students and lead on creating and/or developing the tools to extract their capacity building needs (FGDs, surveys, …)
  • Ensure that each DAFI student commits to the needed volunteering activities;
  • Organize student gatherings and facilitate committee meetings / leadership activities / social cohesion;
  • Lead on formulating structured and individualized capacity-building plans for the DAFI students that match their career objectives, university years, and attained skills;
  • Monitor and review the progress in the implementation of the capacity building plans at the level of the project as a whole and the students as individuals, and design the needed evaluation frameworks and development action plans;
  • Act as the focal point for the follow-up and the needed interventions to implement, evaluate, and develop the action plan for the DAFI alumni network;
  • Lead on the facilitation of any in-house workshop or training based on the needs extracted, if needed.
  • Lead on the process needed to further invest in initiating community initiatives that are co-planned, organized, and implemented by the DAFI students and alumni;
  1. Implementation of the DAFI project
  • Assist the project manager in outreaching for trainers, partners, and any other entity with a scope of work that serves the project’s action plan and the capacity building of the DAFI students and alumni;
  • Build partnerships with local communities / NGOs for the implementation of volunteering activities;
  • Assist the DAFI team in designing and monitoring the project’s implementation planning throughout the year;
  • Submit reports reflecting on any capacity building action conducted with the DAFI students and/or alumni to the project manager;
  • Participate in internal and external meetings related to the DAFI project and draft the associated MOMs and action points concluded;
  • Support the DAFI team in any new initiatives taken by any of the DAFI team members that would build-up the project’s action plan;
  • Take an active part in the learning aspect of the project (lessons learned, suggestions for improvement, students’ needs, …);
  • Contribute and co-lead the implementation of the project’s communication and visibility plans;

PROFILE

Education: Higher education (bachelor or master) in education, social work, HR, business management, psychology, resources development, and other related fields.

Experience: 3 to 5 years, whether in the private, public or in a civil society organization

  • Previous experience preferably in the educational domain or capacity building (trainings) domain, ideally in an international solidarity organization in Lebanon is preferable.
  • Working experience on UN agency funded projects is a plus.

Skills:

  • Proficiency in the Arabic language (oral / written) mandatory
  • Exceptionally good oral and writing skills in English mandatory, French is a plus
  • Ease of work on Excel is required
  • Understanding and / or appeal for higher education and scholarship implementation is a plus
  • Good interpersonal skills, good representation of partners and beneficiaries, good contact with disadvantaged young people
  • Expertise in setting work-plans and following up on activities and timelines
  • Advanced organizational, communication, facilitation, and strategic thinking skills

 Qualities:

  • Autonomy, dynamism proactivity; responsiveness and flexibility
  • Good interpersonal skills, ability to manage intercultural relations
  • Sense of organization, human relations, and teamwork
  • Adherence to IECD values: respect to the human person, the spirit of service, a professional commitment

 The candidate should have an active driving license.

CONDITIONS

Period of employment: 1 year renewable

Position based in Beirut, with regular trips in the country –

Salary range

1300 – 1800 USD
