The ongoing economic crisis has had a detrimental effect on the Lebanese labor market.
A report by the International Labour Organization found that among Lebanese youth the unemployment rate was the highest in the Arab World in 2022 at 47.8%, which further increases their vulnerability and their desire to emigrate. Meanwhile, Lebanese companies say they struggle to find the right talent due to a skills mismatch.
In response, IECD – Semeurs d’Avenir adopts an integrated approach to facilitate access to employment for young people, especially in marginalized groups – with the support of the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), Drosos Foundation, and the European Union.
This approach comprehensively complements our actions across the board, from technical and vocational trainings to support to education and entrepreneurship.
Our Scope
Promoting and enhancing the quality of vocational and technical education by strengthening the capacities of trainers and training institutions
Empowering youths through career guidance sessions and soft-skills trainings to integrate the professional environment with more confidence
Improving transparency by building connections between employers and jobseekers, and enhancing skill matching through skills-based work programs
Our Activities at a Glance
Guidance and Employment Offices (GEO)
IECD – Semeurs d’Avenir has established Guidance and Employment Offices that benefit from continuous support in 15 schools across Lebanon.
These offices help students develop a professional pathway tailored to their needs and aspirations.
Youth Empowerment and Guidance (YEG)
YEG activities in schools guide students and support young professionals with the essential tools, information, and support to choose and embark on a successful and rewarding career.
The Mehnati online Learning Management System (LMS) offers useful tools to help students better define their career aspirations and integrate the job market.
Enhanced Employability
With the support of IECD, GEOs seek to match market demand with supply by organizing Career Guidance and Employment Forums, and On-the-Job-Training bootcamps.
Additionally, the Mehnati job portal connects trainees from all IECD projects to job vacancies and potential employers.
The Lebanese non-governmental organization, Semeurs d’Avenir, was founded in 2010 with the support of the European Institute for Cooperation and Development (IECD), in order to put in place a local structure that can carry on and ensure the sustainability of projects launched by the IECD in Lebanon with its local partners. Semeurs d’Avenir is the main partner of IECD in Lebanon.
