Outreach intern – Short Vocational Training – Beqaa

IECD (Institut Européen de Coopération et de Développement) is a French non-governmental organization founded in 1988 and operating in the field of social and economic development in partnership with local institutions. IECD’s main sectors of action are vocational training and professional integration, assistance to micro and small enterprises and access to education and health for the most vulnerable. In Lebanon, IECD has been operating in the country since 1994 and opened a regional office in Beirut in 2007.

Semeurs d’Avenir (SDA) is a Lebanese association, created in 2010, registered under the number 1905. It is the operational partner of IECD in Lebanon.

The short trainings intervention aims to bring professional skills to young Lebanese and refugees through short-term (up to 4 months) vocational training programs targeting jobs with higher employment opportunities on the local labor market: construction apprenticeship, maintenance, medical care assistance, esthetic among others. These training programs are combined with a personal development component, which includes community activities and general improvement of personal skills.

MISSION

Reporting to the project manager in Beqaa IECD office in Lebanon, she/he will assume the following responsibilities:

– Identify potential partners and employers, community organizations, and target audiences for outreach efforts

– Help manage registration sheets received from social media accounts and respond to inquiries from the candidates.

– Complete databases of contacts, outreach activities, and other relevant information.

– Contributing to the preparation of the project’s major events, meetings, and training as well as the organization of community service activities.

– Field visits to the ongoing trainings and to the internship locations to validate the process are going on track

– Assisting the short vocational training team with several administrative tasks including data entry, filling out administrative templates and other projects’ related documents.

– Assist in the procurement of materials needed for the project as well as for Tripoli office and preparing inventories when needed.

– Supporting in all administrative tasks related to IECD Tripoli office (Maintenance of cars, procurement of materials, payments for landline, payment for mechanics, etc.)

Education: Bachelor’s or Graduate degree preferably in communication, marketing, public relations, social work or a related field. Students currently pursuing their studies are also motivated to apply.

Experience: No experience is required for this position. However, former volunteering and internships directly related to working in the humanitarian field is preferred.

Skills:

    • – Excellent written and verbal communication skills in Arabic and English language.
    • – Proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word)
    • – Good organization and communication skills
    • – Strong work ethics with a high level of commitment to self-development and initiative taking
    • – High commitment to humanitarian work and demonstrated curiosity towards international issues
    • – Having a driving license is mandatory

CONDITIONS

Duration: 6 months

Location: Beqaa office in Chtoura

Salary: 150 USD + Transportation fees

Graduation ceremony of the first class of BT programming

After 3 years of work and training established in 5 technical schools around Lebanon, 64 young men and women have received their diploma in BT programming, with an 87% pass rate of success in the official exam.
This BT program which was launched in 2019 by Semeurs d’Avenir and IECD in collaboration with partners from the public and private sector and with the DGVET, has succeeded in training young people in coding and programming to be able to enter the labor market with higher qualifications.

The official signing of a cooperation agreement took place between IECD and Semeurs d’Avenir and the Directorate General of Antiquities at the Ministry of Culture. This agreement permits the conduct of a number of training courses to help preserve urban heritage and restore heritage buildings damaged by the Beirut explosion.

Launching of “Energy University Lebanon” project

Considered the first of its kind in Lebanon, this project allows the BT electrotechnical students to benefit from about 35 free online courses offered by Schneider University. Energy University Lebanon intends to strengthen the technical skills of BT electrotechnical students, and help facilitate their entry into the job market despite the crises currently plaguing Lebanon.

Students who wish to participate in these courses will be able to obtain a certificate of participation, and the top-ten will receive prizes. A number of participants will also get an apprenticeship opportunity at one of Schneider’s subsidiaries.
